Never overload your skip! ⚠️
Always ensure the skips are loaded level to the maximum capacity line!
If you overload skips or fail to safely fill the skip, skip hire companies will refuse to remove your skips and you could receive a fine from your local council as this would be against the terms of your permit.
Transporting overloaded skips poses a huge risk to other drivers and can result in injury. If your skip is not loaded correctly, some skip companies can charge a ‘wasted journey fee’, so to keep other road users safe and to avoid increasing costs read our simple guide on how to safely load a skip.
These are some simple steps to ensure you are not endangering anyone:
1. Place flat items at the bottom of the skip.
2. Dissemble or break down the large and bulky items, the smaller the better!
3. Organise different waste before filling the skip, for example, household waste or building materials so waste can be easily removed.
4. Any loose items must be placed on top of the pile.
Flat items include wood, metal sheets, paper, and cardboard. On top of the flat items, make sure to stack items such as bricks, ceramics and tiles to make the most of the space in the skips. Then make sure to break down large pieces such as, furniture and fit them safely below the max line. Fill the gaps and spaces with light and loose items, such as, plastics, soil, and sand to fill in spaces so the skip is securely filled to level with the max line.
